In a first for the MLB, a woman has been hired as a coach. San Francisco Giant’s manager Gabe Kalper announced Alyssa Nakken was named an assistant for the team this coming season.
According to ESPN, “’She is a former softball standout at first base for Sacramento State who joined the club in 2014 as an intern in baseball operations. She and Mark Hallberg, who also was named as an assistant Thursday, will work to promote high performance along with a close-knit team atmosphere,’ Kapler said.”
Nakken joins San Francisco 49ers Katie Sowers as women on a professional team’s coaching staff. This Sunday, Sowers will be the first woman to coach a Super Bowl team as the 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs.
